Jaroslav Žila’s collections of poetry (especially Nejstarší žena na vsi, 2000; Tereza a jiné texty, 2003) and the poetic echo of Viktor Kolář’s black & white photographs (Ostrava, obležené město, 1995) recall moments of human life determined, among other things, by landscape. On the other hand they are also pictures of moments that destroy the landscape. The Ostrava region and Beskids, landscapes “frozen” in a particular moment, moments of life preserved in the landscape, landscape in flashes of memory, and identity in fragments of space are taken as a starting point for further analysis of the poet’s works.
